On Feb. 19, Oakland Thrive successfully hosted Black Business Rising: Thriving in Uncertain Times: A Multi-Generational Dialogue on Black Entrepreneurship at The Event House in Lathrup Village, bringing together a dynamic group of entrepreneurs, business leaders, and community members for an evening of connection and conversation.
The panel explored the intersection of wisdom and innovation across generations, highlighting key topics such as access to capital, resilience in the face of challenges, and strategies for adapting in an evolving business landscape. Attendees gained valuable insights into the future of Black enterprise and the importance of collaboration across industries and experiences.
Moderated by Jasmine Patton, Executive Director of the Southfield Area Chamber of Commerce, the discussion featured an engaging lineup of panelists, including Larry Alebiosu, President of Fashion International; Tanesha Reed, Owner of Modern Mogul; and Devin Dennard, Media Director at SBoy Printing and Promotions and independent content creator.
The event created a space for meaningful dialogue, networking, and shared learning, reinforcing Oakland Thrive’s commitment to supporting and uplifting Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs across the region.

On March 25, Oakland Thrive hosted an interactive Business Development workshop with B2B Technical Assistance Provider Nicole Lewis focused on equipping entrepreneurs with a structured, results-driven approach to growing their businesses. Participants were introduced to an 8-step framework designed to strengthen their business development processes and improve their ability to convert opportunities into closed deals. Through a combination of group and individual exercises, attendees assessed their current strategies, identified gaps and opportunities, and began developing actionable business development plans tailored to their needs. The session emphasized moving from conversation to conversion; helping entrepreneurs leverage their expertise while building sustainable sales momentum.
